Market Commentary - Pre Session
Indian markets are expected to start the day on flat to positive note today despite a weak set of global cues. Meanwhile, the impending monthly expiry of derivative contracts might also keep the indices volatile.
Apart from this, investors might focus on stock-specific moves, while tracking a set of important cues including the India-China newsflow, Covid-19 trends, oil price movement and the Rupee's trajectory.
In the primary market, the IPO of Angel Broking opens for retail subscription today at a price band of Rs 305-306 per equity share. The offer will close on September 24. Yesterday, Angel Broking raised nearly Rs 180 crore from anchor investors.
On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 38034.14 down by -811.68 points or by -2.09 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11250.55 down by -254.4 points or by -2.21 %. On the global front, Wall Street’s main indexes tumbled on Monday as concerns about new lockdowns in Europe and possible delays in fresh stimulus from Congress raised fears the U.S. economy faces a longer road to recovery than previously hoped for.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 2% to end at 27,102.99 points, while the S&P 500 lost 1.28% to 3,276.87. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.22%, to 10,769.20. Further, Asian shares opened weaker on Tuesday on concerns about new pandemic lockdowns in Europe and after reports about financial institutions allegedly moving illicit funds hurt global banking stocks.
In Asia, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.5% while South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.9%. Japan is closed for a public holiday. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index futures were down 0.36%. Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Tata Motors Ltd. 64735434.00, State Bank of India 57614739.00, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. 29829634.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 28933176.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 26163752.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 26.20 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 83868.87 Crore
On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 598913 with a total turnover of Rs. 39974.33 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1522780 with a total turnover of Rs. 114383.22 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 21332708 with a total turnover of Rs. 1467938.91 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 2144675 with a total turnover of Rs. 184976.22 Crore.
The FIIs on 21/09/2020 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 19602.99 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 570.43 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 17779.05 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 229.89 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1823.94 Crore and Rs. 340.54
